Carolyn Jean Matthews

Carolyn Jean Matthews, 88, entered into eternal rest on March 2, 2025, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on August 3, 1936, Carolyn lived a life rooted in faith, love, and generosity—touching the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Carolyn spent more than 25 years working as a nurse’s aide, where her gentle hands and comforting presence brought peace to countless patients and families. Her compassion extended far beyond her work—she volunteered regularly at her church, coordinated community meal drives, and was always the first to lend a helping hand.

She married the love of her life, Robert Matthews, in 1957, and together they built a home filled with laughter, gospel music on Sunday mornings, and traditions that continue to resonate through the generations. Carolyn was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, known for her sweet tea, her warm embraces, and her words of encouragement spoken at just the right moment.

A woman of deep faith, Carolyn found joy in reading her Bible on the porch, tending to her roses, and cooking for family gatherings—where no one ever left hungry. Her steady spirit, quiet humor, and unwavering kindness will be remembered by all who knew her.

Carolyn is survived by her children, Denise (Harold) Turner and Marcus (Evelyn) Matthews; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her sister, Lillian Brooks. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and her parents, Clara and John Brooks.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, March 8, 2025, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Evergreen Rest Cemetery.

Carolyn leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and faith—one that will continue to guide her family for generations to come.
