Evelyn Marie Dalton, 87, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, with her family by her side. Born in 1938, Evelyn lived a life defined by warmth, quiet strength, and an unwavering devotion to the people she loved.
Evelyn spent more than 30 years as an elementary school teacher, shaping the lives of countless students with her gentle guidance, patient encouragement, and belief that every child had something special to offer. Even after retirement, she remained active in her community—tutoring, volunteering at the library, and baking for local charity events.
She married her best friend, Thomas Dalton, in 1960, and together they shared 52 years of laughter, partnership, and family traditions that continue today. Evelyn was a loving mother to two daughters, Melissa and Jane, and a proud grandmother who delighted in every milestone, big or small.
Those who knew Evelyn will remember her for her soft humor, her mustard-colored sweaters she wore each autumn, her love of gardening, and the handwritten birthday cards she sent without fail. She had a gracious way of making space for others—listening fully, offering wisdom only when asked, and welcoming everyone with kindness.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Melissa (Andrew) Carter and Jane (Michael) Rowe; her four grandchildren; and her sister, Margaret Lewis. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas, and her parents, Henry and Ruth Lewis.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Meadowbrook Chapel, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Maple Ridge Cemetery.
Evelyn’s legacy of patience, gentleness, and steady compassion will continue to shine through the many lives she touched.
