It is with profound sadness and deep respect that we announce the passing of Raymond Mitchell, a stalwart of strength, bravery, and selfless service, who departed from this world on February 10, 2024. Born on April 26, 1939, Raymond lived a life marked by honor and commitment, embodying the virtues he held dear throughout his esteemed career and personal endeavors.

Raymond's legacy is anchored in his remarkable military service. For two decades, he donned the uniform of the United States Army, rising to the distinguished rank of Colonel. His valorous contributions during the Gulf War earned him the esteemed accolades of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart, testaments to his unwavering courage and dedication in the face of adversity. Throughout his military journey, he not only led with integrity but also inspired those around him, instilling a sense of pride and purpose in all who served alongside him.

Beyond his military accomplishments, Raymond's life was enriched by the connections he forged with family, friends, and communities alike. He was a man of wisdom and kindness, whose presence radiated a warmth that touched the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him.

In honoring his memory, family, and friends are invited to pay their respects during a viewing at Sonzini Mortuary, located at 123 Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina, on February 22, 2024, from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM. A funeral service celebrating Raymond's extraordinary life will be held the following day, February 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM, also at Sonzini Mortuary.

Raymond Mitchell will continue to be remembered, cherished, and honored through the stories shared and the lives he impacted. His journey will culminate with a burial at Cypress Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park in Colma, California, on May 21, 2025, commencing at 6:45 AM.

As we bid farewell to an incredible man, may his spirit inspire us to live with the same courage, dedication, and compassion that he exemplified so beautifully throughout his extraordinary life.
